Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run
by smart people who are putting us on, or by
imbeciles who really mean it.

Sustainable Living in Houston - a non-profit environmental conservation group, promoting sustainable living through everyday actions by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Ace Hardware located at
11655 Jones Road is our very
FIRST Erase the Mark
business!
In order to qualify as an Erase the Mark business, you have to
demonstrate steps have been taken and will continue to be taken toward
easing the burden on our environment and actively sharing this with the
public.  We hope to have a decal made very soon for businesses to
proudly display on their windows.

Ace Hardware is recognized as our FIRST business for the following
actions they have taken:

1) The store is powered by wind energy.

2) They use recycled paper in all copiers and printers as well as in the
restrooms.

3) They continue to switch all lights to CFL as the incandenscents burn
out.

4) Simple Green cleaners are used instead of the toxic counterparts.

5)All non-essential lights are turned off at night except for security and
the main sign.

6) Ceiling fans are used wherever possible instead of extra air
conditioning.

7) To share their enthusiasm with the public, they also carry
environmentally friendly products.

Seventh Generation products, Holy Cow!cleaning products, CFL's
of almost every size including candleabra bulbs, Green Light yard
care herbicides and pesticides, basic composter, Bean Pod
candles, Susan's soaps (made in Texas), Cowboy Charcoal, and
    Chico Bags for $3.99!

Susan Murff, owner of Cypress Ace Hardware tells us she is planning on
carrying even products as she finds them.  She also would like to install a
recycling collection container on her property and is working with SLH
to make it happen!
