All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking.

Safe Routes
Sustainable Living in Houston's mission is to provide education and resources to those living in the Greater Houston area with limited
or no knowledge about the environment and sustainable living.  Some of our focuses include recycling, alternative transportation,
    organic/local foods and childhood education.

The National Center for
Safe Routes to School and
TX-DOT work together with
local communities to bring
safe passageways for kids
to get to school.

If your school does not
have sidewalks and you
are interested in
spearheading  a movement,
email us.
It started with a request from a
mother who wanted to walk with her
children for ice cream.

Incomplete Street
Complete Street
The streets of our cities and towns ought to
be for everyone, whether young or old,
motorist or bicyclist, walker or wheelchair
user, bus rider or shopkeeper. But too many
of our streets are designed only for speeding
cars, or worse, creeping traffic jams. They’re
unsafe for people on foot or bike — and
unpleasant for everybody.
Now, in communities across the country, a movement is growing to complete the
streets
. States, cities and towns are asking their planners, engineers and designers to
build road networks that welcome all citizens.
How to Help
Write your elected officials.  Diversification of
transportation options can only be established with
legislative changes.

Ask your HOA or MUD.  Many times sidewalks are
installed through these entities.
